Texas shoppers get a break from state and local sales taxes during the state's tax holiday. Lay-away plans can be used again this year to take advantage of the sales tax holiday.
The law exempts most clothing and footwear priced under $100 from sales and use taxes for this weekend. The tax exemptions could save shoppers about $8 on every $100 they spend.

Members of the Gulf Coast Living History Association reenact the discovery of the Lucas Gusher, the oil well that blew in on Jan. 1, 1901, marking the beginning of the Spindletop oil boom.
The gusher blows to more than 160 feet to commemorate the discovery of the Lucas Gusher. The Lucas Gusher oil well blew on January 10, 1901 and marked the beginning of the Spindletop oil boom.
The gusher re-enactment lasts about ten minutes. Wear a swimming suit and bring a towel.
